Program Description: This program focuses on the rules of thought philosophically, subjects of main problems of logic, argumentation, concept, proposition and philosophical analysis. The courses cover central logical themes (e.g., syllogistic logic, modal logic, inductive reasoning, and deductive reasoning) and historical figures (e.g., Aristotle, al-Farabi/Alpharabiu, Ibn Sina/Avicenna, Ibn Rushd/Averroes, Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, and Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, Shams al-Dîn as-Samarqandî, Nacm al-Dîn al-Kazvinî). The program aims to educate researchers who can produce knowledge about relevant field, can share this knowledge in national and international area. In this context, students who graduated from the program; have advanced knowledge in the field of Logic, use in a competent manner sources, research methods and techniques, improve objective and consistent comment about Logical issues, use theoretical and practical knowledge at the level of expertise acquired in field of Logic. They also can use primary and secondary sources in the field, have the scientific language skills and applies in interdisciplinary studies problem-solving competence in the field of Logic and share in verbal and written form at national and international level information related to this field. Hilmi Ziya Ülken, Hamdi Ragıp Atademir, and Necati Öner are among the distinguished professors in the history of the Department.
Graduation Requirements: For students who admitted with Master’s Degree, Doctoral Programs consist of at least seven courses, one seminar, other educational activities, qualifying examination, an article published in a national or international peer-reviewed journals on the relevant field, thesis proposal and dissertation that totals to a minimum of 21 National Credits and 240 ECTS. Students should take120 from courses and seminar, 120 ECTS from thesis work that consist of specialization field courses.
For students who admitted with Bachelor’s Degree, Doctoral Programs consist of at least fourteen courses, two seminars, other educational activities, qualifying examination, an article published in a national or international peer-reviewed journals on the relevant field, thesis proposal and dissertation that totals to a minimum of 42 National Credits and 300 ECTS. Students should take180 ECTS from courses and seminar, 120 ECTS from thesis work that consist of specialization field courses.
