Program Description: This program focuses on examination of Islamic law institutions and the provisions of Islamic law, which based on Qur’an and Sunnah and to present solution to the problems of society related to Islamic law. The program aims students’ being able to understand and evaluate the basic literature of Islamic law and to make comparisons between the knowledge of Islamic law and concept of other legal systems. The program also focuses on courses focusing on authentic, objective, and research-based field studies related to the central issues in Islamic Jurisprudence. The courses are related to three main subjects which are history of Islamic Law (fiqh), methodology of Islamic Law (usul al-fiqh), and comparative Islamic Law. Through these courses, students are exposed to the primary sources of Islamic Jurisprudence, the prominent schools of fiqh that emerged throughout the history of Islamic Jurisprudence, the pioneering figures of these schools and their contributions to Islamic Jurisprudence, and the general characteristics of these schools. Ahmet Esat Arsebük, Sabri Şakir Ansay, Şakir Berki, Abdülkadir Şener, Esat Kılıçer, and Osman Keskioğlu are among the well-established scholars in the field who have contributed to the enrichment of the department over its history.
Graduation Requirements: For students who admitted with Master’s Degree, Doctoral Programs consist of at least seven courses, one seminar, other educational activities, qualifying examination, an article published in a national or international peer-reviewed journals on the relevant field, thesis proposal and dissertation that totals to a minimum of 21 National Credits and 240 ECTS. Students should take120 from courses and seminar, 120 ECTS from thesis work that consist of specialization field courses.
For students who admitted with Bachelor’s Degree, Doctoral Programs consist of at least fourteen courses, two seminars, other educational activities, qualifying examination, an article published in a national or international peer-reviewed journals on the relevant field, thesis proposal and dissertation that totals to a minimum of 42 National Credits and 300 ECTS. Students should take180 ECTS from courses and seminar, 120 ECTS from thesis work that consist of specialization field courses.
